The longest government shutdown in the history of our nation continues to stretch on, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal employees struggling without a paycheck. The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs workers are affected by the partial shutdown, so the Tampa International Airport is working with Feeding Tampa Bay and other groups to help by setting up a food bank for them.
There are about 700 federal employees working at the Tampa airport alone, so there is a big need for assistance. In addition to the food bank, TSA and Customs employees can come to the assistance center to request help from the United Way and the Crisis Center for help paying bills and making ends meet during the shutdown.
