We told you about the bag of sex toys Matt Lauer allegedly kept in his office - in some cases, it was reported that he sent toys as "gifts" with suggestions to the recipients of how he'd like to use them. Now we have an "official" explanation. In case you missed it, Dr. Laura Berman recently told the story of how those came to be.
The sex therapist was a regular “Today” guest at one time. She says that Matt came to her in 2007 asking for advice on how to save his troubled marriage to Annette Roque. After asking the makeup artist to leave, she says "he asked me about sexual aids and devices” because he didn’t want to spotted in a sex shop. So she gave him the bag, which was filled with toys from her line that were designed to spice up things for couples.
Meredith Vieira, Matt’s former “Today” co-host, reportedly discovered the gadgets in his office. She was trying to either scare him by jumping out of the closet of his dressing room when she came across the bag. She reacted by teasing - much to his chagrin.
- ONE MORE THING! Now that Matt’s out, NBC is scrambling to find someone to fill his slot. Sources say that Matt’s intense jealousy made the network get rid of folks like David Gregory, Josh Elliott, and Billy Bush before they could be groomed to take over. The male frontrunner for the gig is Craig Melvin, the host of “Weekend Today” whom one exec said couldn't be picked out of a lineup. As for women, Megyn Kelly’s dismal November sweeps numbers – even lower than her July numbers – are keeping her out of the chair. At this point, Hoda Kotb will continue filling in.
- AND THIS… What’s next for Matt? A former colleague thinks he’ll retire. Even though he hadn’t planned to go out like this, he’d said he wanted to take his money and settle down with his kids. “I don’t think he feels the need to be on air like some people,” the source explained. “I think he’ll have a quiet life and go golfing a ton.”
