The Notorious B.I.G. Gets Brooklyn Basketball Court Renamed After Him

The Crispus Attucks playground courts have been renamed the Christopher "Biggie" Wallace Courts. City Councilman Robert Cornegy led the event on Wednesday (Aug. 2).

Cornegy has been working with Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, for some time now because he's always wanted to honor the fallen rapper his hometown borough. Now, this new park renaming has done just this. “This community is under siege, as it relates to gentrification,” Cornegy at the ceremony. “I don’t care who lives here, you come in this park, you’re gonna have to know who Biggie Smalls was.”

Other loved ones of the late MC's were also there. They included his daughter, T'yanna Wallace, and T'yanna's mother, Jan Jackson. Before he gained worldwide fame, Biggie used to frequent the park, which is located in Bed-Stuy, Fulton St. and Classon Ave. to be exact.

This renaming comes just three short days before the beginning of the 7th annual Dream B.I.G. Youth Basketball Tournament. This game invites kids from all over BK to play some ball in honor of The Notorious B.I.G. Hands down, this year's game is sure to be extra meaningful because of the park's brand new name. In fact, some kids have already given to new Christopher "Biggie" Smalls Courts a test run today. See video of that below.
