It had been nearly seven months with no measurable rain in the City of Trees, 18 days longer than the 194-day record set in 1880.

On Sunday, one-one-hundredth of an inch of rain fell on downtown Sacramento. Other areas in the region saw a bit more, but regardless, the streak has been snapped. Forecasters expect heavier rain is on its way to Northern California, likely to come Tuesday night. Additionally, there are chances of rain each day through at least Sunday, and into next week. Forecasts show a 90% chance of rain Wednesday in Sacramento, with chances of rain and showers continuing each day through at least Sunday.

High temperatures are predicted to range from the low to upper 60s this week.

If this forecast verifies, it's predicted it may bring an end to fire season in Northern California. Ending fire season early would be a relief, considering the trend of fire seasons extending further into fall and winter.
