SEIU Reaches Deal With Sac City Unified And Avoids Strike

Sacramento City Unified School District officials and the union representing service workers are announcing a deal that will avoid a strike.

The agreement with the district's custodial and bus driving staff covers COVID-related safety guidelines, child care services, and stipends. If negotiations failed, officials with the teachers union said they would have walked off the job in a sympathy strike. The main issues expressed by the SEIU were health and safety protocols like physical distancing, face coverings, hand hygiene and screenings, which SCUSD says "goes above and beyond state and local health requirements for the highest levels of protection for SCUSD students and staff."

Both SEIU and district leaders say they are pleased that in-person instruction and operations will resume soon.
