Raiders Owner Says Team's "I CAN BREATHE" Tweet Was His Idea

Raiders owner Mark Davis says an "I CAN BREATHE 4-20-2021." tweet from the team's Twitter account was his idea following the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, former police officer convicted of killing George Floyd.

The internet quickly descended on the tweet with explosive mixed reactions - those who found the tweet in bad taste, along with some who recognize the phrase was an homage to George Floyd's last words. Despite receiving widespread backlash, he tells ESPN he doesn't plan to delete it. Davis says no disrespect was meant to George Floyd's family.

Many public figures have spoken up on their feelings with the tweet - CNN's Don Lemon claims he "wasn't offended by it," while NBA star LeBron James voiced his extreme disappointment with the post.
