California health experts are in disagreement on when the outdoor mask mandate should be lifted.
UCSF infectious disease expert Dr. George Rutherford says with a lot of people unvaccinated and 2,500 new cases each day in California, he believes the prudent thing to do is continue wearing. Another expert at the university, Dr. Monica Gandhi, says it is time to reconsider the outdoor masking mandate, given the low transmission rates for outside activities.
There have been no recent indications that the mask mandate will be lifting in the state of California, but slight adjustments could likely be coming. Ease of outdoor mask mandates are speculated to be the first change to come, as long as CDC safety regulations continue to be met and the majority of the public receive their vaccinations.
