According to TMZ, Young Money CEO Lil Wayne sold the masters to his songs to Universal Music Group back in June for $100 million. This revelation comes from his Ex-manger who is suing Lil Wayne for $20 million for non-payments in his role to resolve Lil Wayne's financial quarrel he had with Cash Money CEO Birdman.
Lil Wayne joins a list of artist who have recently sold their publishing rights. Bob Dylan sold his rights for the tune of $300 million. Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac sold the rights to Fleetwood Mac and her songs for the price of $100 million.
It's interesting why so many artists are selling the rights to their music, when usually having the rights to your songs is the holy grail. Taylor Swift been trying to get the rights to her music for years, but she never was able to, because Scooter Braun (who owns her masters) just sold her music to an investment fund for $300 million.
I can't hate any of these artists for selling their masters, $100 - $300 million is A LOT of money.
