There's not a lot of times where Sacramento is number 1 in anything, but the title for Black advancement goes to Sacramento, beating out Black Mecca Atlanta, GA and Chocolate City Washington D.C. According to a new study from buyinsurance.com, Sacramento is the place to be if you are Black.
The study looked at data from a wide spectrum of areas including Black population concentration, average Black household income, Black mortality at the hands of police, and unemployment rates to find the best and worst metro areas for Black advancement in the nation. The study noted Sacramento-Roseville, CA came in at Number 1 and Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC came in at Number 2, with DMV (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia) and Atlanta-Athen-Clark County-Sandy Springs, GA are tied for the 3rd spot and Miami-Dade County rounding out the top 5.
The study shows that the average Black household in Sacramento makes nearly $40,000/year and the city has 14.2% unemployment.
The city that is the worst for Black mobility, is Pittsburgh, PA, with the average Black household making a little over $29,000 with the city's unemployment at 16.3%. You can check out the full study yourself by clicking here.
