Little Known Facts About Every Freestyle Throwback Jam Artist

We know you've been listening to Stevie B, Lisa Lisa and the rest of our Freestyle Throwback Jam performers for years, but how well do you really know them?

Here are some fun facts about each of the artists to get your ready for the concert happening Friday, April 13th at the Golden 1 Center.

Stevie B.

Before his first hit single Party Your Body hit the airwaves in 1987, Stevie B. worked at fast food restaurants and a car wash to make ends meet.

Lisa Lisa

Lisa Lisa - real name is Lisa Velez - is also an actress. She has appeared on Law and Order: SVU, the short lived Nickelodeon series Taina, and in the movie Kiss of Death alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Nicolas Cage. 

Exposé

The group, made up of Jeanette Jurado, Ann Curless and Gioia Bruno, set the Billboard record for most Top 10 singles off a debut album with 1987's Exposure

Taylor Dayne

In 2010, Dayne lobbied on Capitol Hill with the National Association of Music Merchants and VH1's Save The Music Foundation to try and save school music programs.

Debbie Deb

Gwen Stefani and Korn's Jonathan Davis have both called Debbie Deb a musical influence. 

The Jets

Group name The Jets was inspired by Elton John's hit Bennie and the Jets.

Trinere

The "Queen of Freestyle" studied music at the University of Miami, Florida before recording her first solo album.

Newcleus

Several Newcleus songs like Computer Age have been used in video games including DJ Hero 2 and Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2.

69 Boyz

This Florida-based group of producers and rappers named themselves the 69 Boyz because most of its members were born in the year 1969.

Tag Team

In 2010, the music video for Tag Team's iconic song Whoomp There It Is made headlines 17 years after its release. Why? Because someone closely resembling America's 44th President, Barack Obama, appeared in one of its scenes. The rumor was later debunked and the mystery man was revealed to be rapper LA Sno.
