There's no such thing as too much coffee, but now scientists have determined that drinking four cups of coffee per day is the magic amount for a longer life. Researchers in Spain who followed 20,000 patients over an average of 10 years found that subjects who drank at least four cups of coffee per day had a whopping 64 percent lower risk of death than those subjects who never or rarely drank coffee.
Among people 45 or older, drinking two additional cups was linked to a 30 percent lower risk of death. Says cardiologist and study author Dr. Adela Navarro, "Our findings suggest that drinking four cups of coffee per day can be part of a healthy diet in healthy people." And, of course, super-awake people.
