California Might Turn To Fossil Fuels To Deal With Predicted Blackouts

California may turn back to using more fossil fuels in order to avoid blackouts this summer. Legislation signed by Governor Gavin Newsom Thursday was touted as a plan to combat climate change but it would give state agencies the ability to buy energy from non-renewable sources in an emergency. Under the plan, the state would be allowed to buy diesel generators and possibly buy from gas-fired power plants. It's part of an effort to avoid putting a strain on the state's aging electricity grid during hot weather.
