Snoop Dogg has declared that Kendrick Lamar is the reigning "King of the West" following his successful show on Juneteenth.
The veteran rapper praised K. Dot's "The Pop Out" concert in a video he posted to Instagram on Friday, June 21. Snoop was in Canada while the iconic event went down in Inglewood earlier this week. Nonetheless, the Death Row Records owner gave props to Kendrick for unifying artists across the West Coast.
“Sending a big shout-out to K. Dot and all the homies from the West that stood together unified, organized in peace, love,” Snoop said. “That was fun to watch. Beautiful to see all my peoples come together.”
“K. Dot, you are the King of the West," he added. "That’s the kind of s**t kings do, we unite. We bring our peoples together."
Snoop Dogg has been in Kendrick Lamar's corner since he formally passed the torch to him over a decade ago. Back in 2011, Snoop, Dr. Dre, The Game and more popped out to "The Kendrick Lamar Experience" and celebrated the release of his debut album Section.80. The Long Beach native hit the stage with K. Dot and made sure everyone knew he was next in line for the throne.
“I’ma say this and I’ma mean this," Snoop said. "N***a, you got the torch. You better run with it, n***a, because it’s yours.”
Although Snoop didn't make it out to "The Pop Out," his homie Dr. Dre did. They performed his hits like "Still D.R.E." and "California Love" before the Aftermath Records founder helped introduce the first performance of "Not Like Us." In between songs, he also saluted Kendrick and called him one of the greatest artists to ever hit the mic.
"It always feels good to come back and do this kind of s**t in my hometown, especially with one of the greatest who ever did it," Dre said on stage.
