The $10 Velveeta Shells and Cheese Cups are the subject of a $5 million lawsuit from a lady who claims that it takes longer to prepare them than the 3 1/2 minutes indicated on the label.
On November 18, a class-action complaint was filed against Kraft Heinz Foods Company in the Miami Division of the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, with Amanda Ramirez of Hialeah as the plaintiff.
The claim that the meal is ready in the time stated on the label is alleged to be false and deceptive in the lawsuit since the plaintiff assumed and anticipated that the food would be ready in 3 1/2 minutes.
The Kraft Heinz Company responded to the lawsuit with a statement: 'We are aware of this frivolous lawsuit and will strongly defend against the allegations in the complaint.'
The lawsuit also lists the four steps required to cook the meal and asserts that the ready time is "just the length of time to complete one of several steps" which are opening the cheese sauce bag and lid, adding water, heating in the microwave, and stirring.
Twitter caught wind of the lawsuit and had a field day! Check it out below.
