A new report from GOBankingRates determined the most affordable place to rent in California. While these cities don't necessarily have cheap rents, they are less expensive than major areas like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Here's how the website determined which cities have the most affordable rent costs:

"Using data from ApartmentList, GOBankingRates identified the California cities and towns where the average renter pays less than $2,006 per month, which is the average in the Golden State. That, however, wasnโ€™t the only criteria. The rankings also considered each cityโ€™s cost of living, which was quantified with data from Sperlingโ€™s Best Place and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as well as each townโ€™s livability score, which was sourced from AreaVibes. The total score summarizes all factors โ€” lower is better โ€” and the list is ranked from least affordable to most."
