Possums, Koalas Suffer From Australian Fires - Half a Billion Animals Dead

Brushfires have ravaged the continent of Australia for months, destroying hundreds of homes and claiming at least nine lives.

The fires have swept through nearly 10 million acres, and those paying the heaviest toll may be Australia’s wildlife. Across the country, similar scenes play out of animals in distress seeking help from humans.

A rescuer near Sydney cradled a brushtail possum. The marsupial was swaddled in blankets after receiving burns.
