Bill Cosby Loses Appeal in Sex Assault Case

Bill Cosby Preliminary Hearing

Bill Cosby lost his appealin the sex assault case that landed him in jail. His legal team has asked the court to overturn his conviction on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and molesting Andrea Constand.

The way Cosby’s team saw it, Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Judge Steven O’Neill was wrong to let five accusers to testify at his retrial. But the Pennsylvania Superior Court ruled unanimously that the additional accusers established Cosby’s “signature” pattern of drugging and sexually assaulting his victims. That means that the 81-year-old will have to serve out the three-to-ten year sentence he got.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele lauded the decision. In a statement he said, “It is my hope that with this last guaranteed step in the criminal justice process now complete, the victim in this case
can finally put this assault behind her and move on with her life as the strong survivor she is.” He added, “The world is forever changed because of Andrea’s bravery. With this decision, it has been affirmed that no one is above the law.“

  • Cosby’s spokesperson, Andrew Wyatt – who called the decision "appalling" and "disappointing" – said that they’d take their appeal to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. And Camille Cosby said, “I can assure you that our personal battle against clear, racist, incestuous vindictiveness, within the Pennsylvania criminal justice systems, is not over.”
