Officer Runs Race in Full SWAT Gear, Saves a Life, & Proposes to Girlfriend

19-year police veteran and SWAT member Sgt. Mike Nowacki had a busy day last Sunday. He ran a 15K race in full SWAT gear. 50 pounds of it. He also saved a life. And, he ended the day by getting engaged.

Near the end of the race, Mike heard people yelling, “Medic! Medic!” because a woman had collapsed and was not breathing. Along with a firefighter, he helped administer CPR to the woman – and stabilized her until she was transported to the hospital. As Mike finished the race, he ran toward his girlfriend Erin Gubala. But instead of talking about saving the life of the woman, he got down on one knee and proposed.

At first, Erin thought he was hurt. But when she realized what was really going on, and she was thrilled that the race – and Mike’s busy morning – was over so they could start their new life together. (Chicago Sun-Times)
