Celebs Join Kim Kardashian To Help Stay Rodney Reed's Execution

Rihanna,LL Cool J,Gigi Hadid, and others havejoinedKim Kardashian’s efforts to stopRodney Reed’s execution. The Texas inmate has spent over 21 years on death row for the 1996 murder ofStacey Stiles. He has insisted on his innocence since the beginning, and recently, a former inmate filed an affidavit in court saying that Stiles’ fiancé confessed the murder to him years ago. For the record, the fiancé’s attorney disputes the credibility of the claim - as does the DA.

According to The Innocence Project, however, there are several weaknesses in Reed’s case. For one, an all-White jury convicted the Black man. Also, the murder weapon hasn’t been tested for DNA evidence, and the forensic experts have admitted to errors in their testimony. Still, Reed’s execution is scheduled for November 20th.

“We must come together to prevent a gross injustice,” Yara Shahidi tweeted, along with a link to anonline petitionagainst the execution. Rihanna also tagged Governor Greg Abbott. Others who’ve joined in include TI,Questlove,Meek Mill,Isaiah Washington, and Reggie Bush

  • Meanwhile, Kim has gone a step further and tweetedGovernor Abbott directly. “How can you execute a man when since his trial, substantial evidence that would exonerate Rodney Reed has come forward and even implicates the other person of interest?” She asked, adding, “I URGE YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING.” So far, Abbott hasn’t responded.
