Big Al's Weekend Movie Wrap-Up: 'Joker' Dominates Over 'Maleficent'

After a close race with “Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil,”Todd Phillips’“Joker” laughed its way to the number one spot of the domestic box office for its fourth weekend in theaters. But that’s not all...Joaquin Phoenix’stake on the infamous supervillain has officially become the most successful R-rated movie in history after raking in $849-million worldwide.

Angelina Jolie’s“Maleficent” sequel is close behind in the second spot, but so far it’s only made $65-million domestically. It’s doing better overseas, making another $64-million this weekend for a total international gross of $228-million.

“Countdown” was the strongest debut, although it only made the fifth spot with $9-million in earnings. “Black and Blue” launched once place behind with $8-million. While the ticket sales for “Countdown” may be higher, “Black and Blue” reportedly has better reviews.
