Oprah Makes The Largest Donation In Moorehouse College History

Oprah Winfrey has donated $13-million dollars to Morehouse Collegein Atlanta. It’s the largest endowment ever to the school.

Ms. Winfrey was at the all men’s historically Black college yesterday for the 30th anniversary of theOprah Winfrey Scholars Program. The fund started off at $12-million . Her current donation brings her total investment to $25-million dollars.

“Seeing you young Oprah Winfrey scholars here today has moved me deeply,” she said before announcing her donation. “I am so proud of you, I'm proud of everybody in attendance at this school who is seeking to know more clearly who you are, the value you hold and how you will share that value with the rest of the world.”

  • The reason Winfrey was in Atlanta was for the grand opening ofTyler Perry’s colossal studio. He made it a point togive her credit for inspiring him. “In 2005, Oprah invited me to her Legends Ball,” Perry told his hundreds of guests during the event. "I sawDiana Ross,Smokey Robinson,Tom Cruise, andSidney Poitier, and I said, ‘What am I doing here?’ I didn't know I said it out loud, butYolanda Adams was sitting next to me and…said, ‘You belong here.’ By the end of the party I said, ‘I’m going to dream bigger.’ It was something about being in Oprah's house, being in her presence, seeing what a Black person had accomplished – it really, really spoke to me.”
