A main is dead after he jumped onto subway tracks while holding his five-year-old daughter.
It happened in the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx during the height of rush hour, and dramatic video shows two men going onto the tracks and helping the little girl up to the platform level. Witnesses say the man jumped in front of a downtown 4-train, and though the train operator did seem to slow down, he was struck and killed while holding the girl.
Video taken at the scene shows the little girl crying and calling for her dad as rescuers comfort her. Witnesses say the 45-year-old man was calmly speaking on the phone moments before jumping. Authorities are investigating but the girl may have been small enough to fit between the rails and between the wheels, suffering only minor injuries.
The girls mother told WABC, "Please respect my pain. Thank you for being there, thank you for having my back. The child is in perfect condition, thank you to God and the angels who took care of her. Everything is fine, except the absence of my husband. Thank you."
