Hollywood is sending their condolences and expressing outrage online after the tragic back-to-back shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio this weekend. As we reported separately, the two attacks took place within 13 hours of each other, claiming the lives of around 30 people combined.
Tributes have been posted on Twitter by Lili Reinhart, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, George Takei, John Legendand more.Here’s what the stars have to say:
- Reinhart is “sick to her stomach” the tragedies, and like many, is calling on a change to our laws. “I can’t believe this is happening in my country and no one is doing anything about it,” she writes. ‘Who has to die for laws to change?”
- Johnson is sending his “heart, love & strength” to the victims and their families, and also gives his thanks to the first responders. “Stay strong as we’re forced to heal yet again,” he adds. “What leader will step up to command wiser/effective talks?”
- Julianne Mooreis also urging fans to call on legislative change. “This is a public health crisis,” she writes. “Hold your lawmakers responsible.”
- Takei is calling out Walmart – where the El Paso shooting took place – for posting to social media in the wake of the shootings, when they still sell firearms. “@Walmart is expressing ‘shock.’ You know what? Do more,” he offers. “Show responsibility and leadership. Halt the sale of firearms and ammunition at your stores nationwide.”
- Rainn Wilson, like many, can’t believe how often these senseless shootings occur nowadays. “America, WTF is wrong with us?” he writes. “Mass shootings a weekly event?! I’m speechless.”
- Legend’s “heart aches for El Paso and Dayton,” and he agrees with Wilson about the frequency of the attacks. “Our nation is experiencing these traumas far too often and we need our leaders to take urgent action,” he offers. “Take these weapons of war off the street and fight the evil ideology of white nationalism that motivates many of these terrorists.”
