Graduation day will be a day one Virginia fifth grader will never forget. It all started when the student's shoes broke shortly before he was supposed to walk across the stage to graduate.
A substitute elementary school teacher gave the shoes off his feet so a student could walk across the graduation stage. A 5thgrader was getting ready to walk across the stage to graduate from elementary school when his shoes broke. The kids guidance counselor brought the student and his mom to Von Lewis (known to most at Mr. Lewis) and that’s when he stepped in.
Mr. Lewis tried to repair the shoes but when that didn’t work he told the little boy he could wear his shoes. Mr. Lewis is not only a substitute teacher but he also is a mentor in the Brothers United Mentoring Program.
He wants to tach kids about themselves and they things they are going to face as a black man.
