A routine traffic stop in South Carolina turned out to be far from ordinary. When Deputy Will Kimbro stopped a car for speeding, the driver told him the 12-day-old baby inside had stopped breathing after drinking from a bottle, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
The newborn baby girl was limp and blueish from lack of oxygen, the sheriff’s office reports, and that’s when Deputy Kimbro got to work. He checked the infant’s pulse and started massaging her heart as part of lifesaving first aid. When the baby starts to cry, he reassures her mom, “I think she’s gonna be okay. She’s breathing.”
Kimbro continues to do CPR until the baby’s chest starts moving and she’s breathing on her own. A medical emergency team checks her out at the scene and takes her to the hospital for observation, but she’s released and the sheriff’s office says she’s doing well now. The department’s Facebook post explains, “Because of Deputy Kimbro’s steadfast, professional and heroic response, the 12-day-old baby was able to live.”
