Sorority Helps Donate 17,000 Meals for Hurrican Barry Relief #GoodNews

As Hurricane Barry approached Louisiana, the Delta Sigma Theta sorority was forced to end their biannual conventionearly.

However, the bad weather didn’t dampen their sense of service.

According to the sorority’s president,Beverly Smith, the group purchased over 17,000 meals through Centerplate catering. Instead letting it go to waste, the women donated the meals to the Second Harvest Food Bank. “As a service-based organization, I am delighted that Centerplate will be able get those meals to others in need. If we can help serve someone with meals as they go through their personal storms, then our work and purpose is still being fulfilled,” she said.

Second Harvest Food said they plan to “deliver the meals to storm victims, shelters, first responders and others after the storm clears out.”
